PTC News - March 2025

Writer: PTC CommunicationsPTC Communications

March 2025

Quick List:

  • NEEDED: Walk-a-Thon help! This fundraiser needs a volunteer to assist in putting it on. This is one of the few fundraisers that directly involves our kids and usually raises about $13,000 each year. It's pretty simple to plan and only requires a little time in March to set it up. Please contact Laina Jacobs if you're interested! lainajacobs@gmail.com

  • Coffee and Community is back!  Join us for a cup of coffee and meet other DeLa parents in front of the school, by the main office, anytime between 8 and 9am on Tuesday, March 4th.  We hope to see you there!

  • Save the date: Carnival is May 9th this year

    • If you have a local business you own, or know of one, and would like to be a carnival sponsor, please contact Lindsay Brown: communications@delaveagaptc.org This is a great way to promote your business!

  • The PTC relies on donations to provide a yearbook to every student. Purchase your yearbook today and consider adding a donation to support another student's yearbook! Purchase Your Yearbook Here

  • It takes a village to educate our kids! The funds raised for PTC impact our whole school community, but we can't do it with the help of parents. There are so many ways to help, big and small, that make an impact. Take a look down below on this newsletter to see what specific roles we are looking for help in.

Principal's Corner

Hello Dragon Families,

It continues to be a good year to be a Dragon! Our school continues to add students during the school year. As of today, we are at 484 students - the largest elementary school in our district! Let’s make sure we welcome our new students as well as their families!

Parent information nights and priority registration was a focus for us in January and February. If you or a neighbor has school-aged children for the 2025-26 school year, please be sure to enroll them at our front office. Next year, children with birth dates from September 2, 2020 thru September 1, 2021, will qualify for Transitional Kindergarten. This is the final phase of expansion for TK and we’re also proud to offer it with our Dos Alas program for the 2025-26 school year. Don’t forget the deadline to register for Dos Alas - Two Way Immersion is Friday, March 7th at 3:00pm!

Lately, parents and staff members have noticed some concerning behaviors after school. While we appreciate that families can spend time together after school, we ask that you actively supervise your child. Keep your sight lines unobstructed and it’s probably best to put away your phones when spending time with your kids. Climbing fences or trees, playing along steep areas behind the portable or modular wing along Prospect Heights is definitely not safe. We also discourage wrestling or rough play. Sometimes, our littlest ones confuse what they do after school as being what they can do during school - especially if it’s in an area they usually play!

We hope that we can all encourage “safe hands and bodies” as a consistent practice during and after school! Thank you!

It takes all of us to keep kids safe,

Thien Hua - Principal

Get Involved with PTC

Join us in making a difference at DeLaveaga Elementary. Connect with fellow parents, support your child's education, and help build a strong school community by volunteering with the PTC. Here are our current needs:

Carnival - Auction

We are in GREAT NEED of a few volunteers to help run the Spring Online Auction this year! Do you have a hard time getting into the school to volunteer because of your work schedule? This volunteer role can mostly be done from home on your own hours. We'd love three people to work together as a team & divide up roles that best suit your strengths & availability. Want to make it social - recruit a few of your friends to do it with you! Do you work downtown and have time to drop a few flyers at businesses - then this could be an easy commitment for you!

General guidelines for this role:

  • January - February: Emailing and dropping off letters to local businesses for Auction donations.

  • March - May: Follow up calls & emails to businesses

  • April - May: Creating Online Auction site (uploading images & entering donation info)

  • Ongoing tracking in a spreadsheet

  • Picking up donations at businesses when necessary

  • Managing the Auction site the week of the Auction (May)

  • Management of the auction/raffle booth day of carnival (May 9)

  • Responsibility in distributing items to auction/raffle winners

This is one of the largest fundraisers of the year that leads up to our Spring Carnival and we need YOUR HELP to make it happen!  Contact Melody at Carnival@delaveagaptc.org for any questions/interest.

Carnival - Volunteer Lead

The PTC is looking for someone to shadow the Carnival Lead this year. Your role this year will be to learn the role and step in where you feel comfortable and take over the Carnival Lead Role next year. If you have any event coordinating experience or if you’re extremely organized, this is a great fit for you! You will help lead the committee & monthly meeting, coordinate with the teachers, write communications, organize the games & booths and manage all aspects of the Carnival the day of the event. This is a big role - but also a very important role, to ensure the Carnival continues at DeLaveaga! If you are interested, you could also share the role with a friend and divide and conquer. Contact Carnival@delaveagaptc.org

Communications Director

This role is pivotal for our PTC-to-Parent communication. The Communications Director collects the information regarding that month's events and compiles it into a monthly newsletter. The job itself totals approximately a half day's work each month, and can be flexible based on the schedule of whoever is running the role. This spot is fun as it gives you touch points with a lot of different people involved at the school. If you are interested in the role, please contact Lindsay, communications@delaveagaptc.org

Thank you!! We couldn’t do this without the support of MANY parents!
