November 2023

Principal's Corner

Hello Dragon Families,

Thank you for coming together with us during Fall Conferences! I’ve been fortunate enough to attend conferences with some families as well as experience a couple conferences regarding my own children. It is truly amazing to be both a parent and staff member at DeLaveaga!

As we head into the month of November, there’s so much to look forward to with taking the positive energy from Fall Conferences and applying it to our partnership with you. While we’ve learned so much about your students in the first couple months of school, we also know that our students will grow and change over time. The dynamic of school and learning never stays in one place. It’s constantly moving, so clear, timely communication will only enhance our ability to stay focused on the most important areas of learning for your child. It’s critically important to keep engaged throughout the year with your child’s school team.

As the weather transitions to cooler temperatures, be aware of what children wear to school and remind them to go home with it as well. Our lost and found has grown to the point of overflowing so make sure you take some time to check the eating area behind the school as well as the main hallway for your child’s things.

We look forward to seeing you all at the Halloween Parades for both TK/Kindergarten in the morning and in the afternoon for all other grades. We also have a movie night and a celebration of Arts and Dia de Los Muertos in November!

With gratitude,

Thien Hua - Principal

Halloween Parade, Tuesday, October 31st @1:45pm - To give our students the opportunity to wear their costumes and celebrate Halloween, we are having an outdoor parade for our students and staff on October 31st. We ask that students observe the following guidelines if they want to participate:

  • Students may come to school in costume or bring their costumes in a bag. Check with your teacher’s recommendation by grade-level.

  • It is recommended to choose a costume students can put on by themselves.

  • Makeup or face painting is discouraged as this may be uncomfortable for students to wear all day. They get so disappointed if it smears.

  • No fake blood or violent themes.

  • Hand-held items are best left at home (wands, swords, baskets, etc) to prevent losing them at school.

  • Students will gather for the main Halloween Parade at 1:45pm on the blacktop. Classes will come together and sit on the blacktop around the "track". Each grade level will rise and walk around the inside track led by each of their teachers. Parents can gather on the grassy areas and take photos.

  • Kindergarten requires different considerations and will be self-organized by their teachers. Consult with your classroom teacher.
